Just four to eight hours is all it takes to change someone’s life. And yours.
The people who contact WRAP cannot enter and exit their homes on their own. Some are suddenly injured. Some suffer from chronic illness. Some just have trouble walking. And many don’t have the finances available to cover the high costs of adding a wheelchair ramp onto their house.
That’s why we created WRAP. We eliminate home access barriers. We give people with physical disabilities the ability to come and go as they please. And we have fun while doing it.
Join us. Volunteer your time. You will give someone their freedom back. And you will feel great doing it.
We have a variety of volunteer opportunities available:
Designers lead the construction for the project. As a designer you will meet with the client at their home, evaluate the location and create the wheelchair ramp design. You will develop the list of building materials, obtain building permits, manage the construction project, and oversee the cleanup after the build. Prior experience is not needed for this position – we will train you. You will follow a current designer to several builds to learn the process. You will also participate in three training classes including Design 101, Design 201 and Aluminum.
Carpenters, laborers and helpers show up onsite, the day of the build. You will help the designer build the wheelchair ramp. You will measure, mark and cut materials using hand and power tools. You can participate in any way that you prefer. We build ramps any day of the week; a typical project lasts four to eight hours. We notify all of our volunteers when a build has been scheduled and the first 10-12 volunteers to respond build the ramp. No prior experience is necessary. The designer and other volunteers will train you on how to build and teach you how to safely use the tools. Simply show up wearing closed-toed shoes and season appropriate clothing. And bring along any tools you have, such as drill drivers, levels, hammers, saws, squares, tape measures, etc.
We need office help! Volunteer your time to help with webmaster support, marketing, public speaking engagements, promotional material development and distribution, fundraising, and social media support.
Sponsor a build day! Volunteer as a group – it can be a great team building activity for businesses, high schools and colleges, and volunteer organizations. Or donate materials, food or financial contributions. Contact us for more details.
