As a Physical Therapist, I had worked with WRAP to get ramps for patients in need. I was able to see what a difference WRAP could make in someone’s life. When the opportunity arose to give back, I was thrilled to become part of the board. In my role with Mercy Home Care, I continually recommend WRAP when a situation warrants it. They fill a niche that no one else in the area does.
Community Volunteer
I volunteer with WRAP because I love seeing the smile on clients’ faces when they see their finished ramp for the first time. Being able to give them safe access to and from their homes is so rewarding, and they are so excited and grateful. We really are changing someone’s life in a day and are helping them stay in their homes. My mother uses a wheelchair, so I know how important WRAP’s mission is. The other volunteers are wonderful and welcoming, and I cannot think of a better way to give back to the community.

I have been involved with WRAP since I retired in 2008. I joined the board of directors in 2010. WRAP is more than a charity organization. The work of these volunteers frees people from the confinement of their homes while making it possible for them to remain in their homes in spite of their reduced mobility. The action of these volunteers is energizing. They channel their energy and God given talent to make lives in our community better. I am proud to be part of this organization.

After retiring from Transamerica, I was interested in giving back to our community. After volunteering on several builds, I quickly learned what a valuable service WRAP provides to our area for those that are wheelchair bound and financially challenged. I saw first-hand the impact of our efforts when a homeowner used the new ramp for the first time and getting into her home after a year of being in a facility. Being on the Board offers me the ability to lend some of my business background and organizational skills to help set the future for WRAP for years to come.

I have always believed that volunteerism is the backbone of our country. WRAP is an amazing organization that is almost completely powered by volunteers. These volunteers completely change the lives of our clients by freeing them from their home through home access in a matter of hours. They deliver hope and joy. They live the Golden Rule every day. There is no feeling like seeing a client confined to their home, free on their ramp for the first time. I am so proud of the work WRAP does in our community and humbled to be a tiny part of it.

I got to know WRAP and its wonderful volunteers through my position at Mount Mercy University. Mount Mercy loves volunteering with WRAP on build sites and partnering in the classroom. After many service events the WRAP mission just got into my blood!
